After graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in Integrative Physiology, and working at Denver Health Medical Center as a nurse assistant Ben felt led to further his career in the field of nursing.
Ben completed his bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. After working as an acute care registered nurse at the Denver Health Medical Center for 6 years Ben once again felt led to further his nursing career and so pursued a master's degree in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
While working in primary care as an FNP, Ben began expanding his expertise into medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders. Working with addiction treatment centers around the Denver Metro area, such as Aspen Ridge Recovery and Colorado Medication Assisted Treatment, Ben saw the great overlap between physical health, addiction and mental health and decided to pursue a post-master's degree in psychiatriy as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Having a background in family practice, primary care, addiction medicine, and psychiatry, Ben O'Brien is uniquely qualified to understand the interplay between physical and mental health and how they can impact or exacerbate once another.
